I like that I’m learning so much and get to be so hands-on in shaping our product. I like that I get to think creatively about the way we solve problems.
- Lilian Chia, Product Designer at Trade Ledger
As we continue to shine a light on some of the female superstars at Trade Ledger, we've spoken with Lilian Chia for the second instalment of our Trade Legend Spotlight series. Read on to hear how Lilian discovered Trade Ledger, why is she so excited to be part of the design team and what she gets up to day-to-day.
I’m a Product Designer based in Sydney, part of the Product Engineering team. I design UI and UX solutions for various customer scenarios we’re looking to solve within our platform.
I used to work with the sister of Ed Yao, Trade Ledger’s Product Designer, and got in touch with Ed through her. He explained to me what Trade Ledger does and the problem the business is solving which I found intriguing. The role of Product Designer was enticing to me as well as I wanted to develop my UX and UI skills that grew from my digital and graphic design background.
I like that I’m learning so much and get to be so hands-on in shaping our product. I like that I get to think creatively about the way we solve problems.
I also love how friendly, funny, and genuinely helpful my colleagues are. Even when they’ve got a lot on their plate, they’ll always take the time to respond to my questions with thorough explanations.
Difficult to pick just one. Without giving too much away - I’m excited to see the direction our platform is heading in. My team’s focus, at the moment, is on enhancing the ease of use when it comes to our platform, consistent styling and behaviour, and accessibility.
The Figma design app is pretty much permanently open on my screen. I spend most of my time mocking up designs and creating user flows. I join daily standups in the morning with the Product and Engineering team in Sydney.
During these morning's meetings, each team member briefly describes what they are working on and if there are any blockers. We also like to call out wins and give shoutouts to our colleagues who go above and beyond to help others out and deliver on their projects. The standups are usually 15-minute long and are perfect for getting aligned on what's happening and setting us up for the day.
There are still parts of the platform that I need to wrap my head around and want to understand better - why things are the way they are, do they need to be that way, and how I can help to improve them.
Keep on learning and hone my skills. I am also looking forward to getting more involved in conducting user research to guide our design choices.
